You may file 1040EZ if you are single or filing
jointly, do not claim any dependants, do not
claim a student loan interest deduction or an
education credit, you are under the age of 65
and not blind, your taxable income is less then
$50,000, you had only wages, salaries, tips and
your taxable interest was not over $400, you did
not receive any advanced earned income credit
payments and you did not owe household employee
taxes.

You may file 1040A if you only had income from
wages, salaries, tips, interest, ordinary
dividends, taxable scholarships and fellowship
grants, pensions, annuities, IRAs, unemployment,
taxable social security and railroad retirement
benefits, Alaska Permanent Fund dividends, your
adjustments are limited to IRA deduction and
student loan interest, you do not itemize
deductions, your taxable income is less then
$50,000, and your only tax credits may be for
children, education, earned income, child or
dependent care expensed, elderly or disabled,
and adoption.

You must use 1040 if you have self-employment
income, capital gains, tips not reported to your
employer, you received or paid interest on
securities transferred between interest payment
dates, you had a financial account in a foreign
country, you received distribution from a
foreign trust, reporting original issue discount
in an amount more or less than the amount shown
on form 1099-OID, you owe household employment
taxes and itemizing your deductions.
